Although Samba is now played over radios, podcasts, and online stations all over North and South America and European countries, it is still one of the most popular musical styles that are central to Brazil. Samba, with its typical music in varied 2/4 tempo beat, is celebrated all over Brazil, where it is especially sung and played within Carnaval and football settings. Even though there are many popular Samba groups, this music can still be heard with chants coming from the neighborhoods of families that celebrate their cultural heritage. Not only is Samba music the livelihood of many people within Brazil, but there is an entire cultural hub that comes complete with authentic food, costumes, and dancing celebrations within these neighborhoods.
Now, there are Samba schools that are within North America and
Europe, as this music can be celebrated by everyone that wants to
feel the rhythm and beat of modern-day freedom. Why does the music
resound so much like people that are free? Samba music was
originally sung and composed by African slaves, but there music
sung a tale of utter freedom that they knew belonged to them within
their hearts. It was as if the music they created said to all who
could hear, “We are free and we will remain so!” Now, this is the
reason that people everywhere can stomp their feet, dance, or spin
to the music of Samba. Not only does this music reach the
Afro-Latin culture, but it essential speaks to all people of the
freedom that is desired and felt within the human condition. Even
with the modern revival that took place within the early 2000’s,
Sambistas everywhere want people to continue to remember and enjoy
the songs, sites, and movement of Samba music freedom. As for now,
Samba remain a necessity across many cultures of people.
